3. Spend a warm October afternoon at the pumpkin patch.

We think October is the best month of the fall.

We started this post with a quote about October. I’m indeed so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers… I bet you are too.

There’s no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in October than at a pumpkin patch.

There’s probably at least one pumpkin patch in your area.

Some patches are pick-your-pumpkin, where you go out in the fields to pick a pumpkin off the vine.

Some pumpkin patches are set up where the pumpkins are in a pile and you get to pick the one you want.

The type you have depends on where you live. Pumpkins grow better in certain areas of the country.

Either place is a fun time to enjoy with your partner and your baby bump.

Along with pumpkins from giant to mini, you’ll often find that they have apple pies, jams, and, usually apple cider.

Apple cider is safe to drink during pregnancy as long as it’s pasteurized.

Some pumpkin patches will have a corn maze too. Getting lost in the core maze is a rite of fall.

Be sure to pick up a pumpkin for yourself and pick a little pumpkin for your baby bump.

Take lots of pictures of yourself and your bump at the pumpkin patch.

Going to the pumpkin patch while pregnant is a wonderful family tradition to start and is one that you will be able to do with your child year after year.

6. Take a fall leaf-peeping road trip

A leaf-peeping road trip is a perfect excuse to break out your chunky sweater, grab a pumpkin spice latte, and head out to enjoy Falls last big splash before the long cold winter sets in.

We’re from New England so we are very spoiled with so many places to see brilliant fall colors. But even in the Western and southern US, there are places to see changing colors of leaves.

Plan your trip ahead of time. Decide if it’s going to be a day trip or a weekend get-away.

Make sure you pack plenty to drink and healthy snacks for the road.

Take stops along the way so you can get out and stretch your legs and walk around.

Bring your camera or make sure your phone is charged so you can take plenty of pictures.

Plan accordingly for colder weather and dress in layers,

Check the weather forecast before you go there are some places that are prone to early snowstorms.

Make sure you have an emergency kit in your car.

7. Follow your instinct to nest.

Fall and pregnancy both tend to bring on the urge to clean, purge, and make our homes feel warm and inviting.

If you have a strong urge to nest, go with it.

Decorate your house for fall. Break out the warm blankets, the warm fall colors, buffalo plaid pumpkins, decorate your porch, enjoy scented candles, and make DIY scented potpourri.

Decorate for Halloween, and start planning for Thanksgiving.

Enjoy it and most importantly have fun.

Fall is a gorgeous and magical time for a pregnancy photoshoot.

Whether you hire a professional or your partner takes the photos, definitely set up a fall photoshoot.

13.  Go to a state or county fair

Fall for many people means state and county fairs with farm animals, pumpkins, and hot apple cider.

Look for local fairs in your area and schedule a weekend event. Combine it with apple picking and you have a weekend agenda set to go.

With social distancing becoming a top priority, particularly during your pregnancy, going to an outdoor event is always a great choice.

14.  Take an online pregnancy or breastfeeding class.

Taking a pregnancy class is actually a necessity but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun, particularly now that you can attend an online course from your home.

If you are planning on breastfeeding you really should take a course about breastfeeding as there is a lot to know.

This suggestion is more of a reminder of what you should be doing in the Fall if your due date is in the spring.

Virtual, online courses, are able to accept more enrollees, but keep in mind that the online courses that are interactive and most popular do fill up, so you will want to book the course far in advance.

It’s your day to break the rules.

There are a few foods you should avoid during pregnancy because they can cause foodborne illness.

Is Eggnog Safe During Pregnancy?

The holidays will soon be here. If you are pregnant, you may be asking yourself: Is eggnog safe during pregnancy? As clinicians, Sue and I see this question come up often and it is no surprise: Pregnant women and new moms have the ability to talk about these topics like never before.
