Here’s what you need to know about playing disc golf while pregnant.

Can I play disc golf while pregnant?

Yes! You can play disc golf while pregnant.

According to our OB/GYN Dr. Doug Penta, disc golf, also known as frisbee golf, is a great way for you to stay active during pregnancy.

Of course, this is assuming you are having no medical complications with your pregnancy and you have discussed this with your prenatal care provider.

The sport is low impact, so there is no jarring motion.

Since it is essentially nothing more than walking, it is an excellent form of exercise.

Some courses can be quite long so keep in mind the fact that you will have to walk back.

Best of all, disc golf is a sport that can be played during the second and third trimesters of your pregnancy, as long as the amount of physical activity is something you are comfortable with.

In addition, disc golf is a great sport to play with others who enjoy the sport.

For some, disc golf becomes a regular sporting activity that offers the opportunity to learn about disc golf stores and the frisbee golf courses nearby.

This can be great for emotional support if you feel your pregnancy is limiting your interaction with friends and family.

Precautions to keep in mind before playing disc golf during pregnancy:

  1. First, be sure to check with your doctor before playing disc golf or any exercise routine, especially if it is a new activity.
  2. Second, be cautious when throwing the disc. Use proper form and avoid throwing the disc too hard.
  3. Third, if you experience any discomfort or pain stop immediately.
  4. Fourth, make sure you bring plenty of drinks since it is easy to become dehydrated during pregnancy.
  5. Fifth, if you become tired or fatigued you should stop and rest and if need be stop playing for the day.
  6. Sixth, Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat. Your skin is more susceptible to sunburn while you are pregnant.

Finally, keep in mind that disc golf can be a challenging sport, especially if you are one who takes sports seriously.

Make sure to simply enjoy the sport while you are pregnant, and treat it as a leisure form of exercise.

So when it comes to playing sports, disc golf and pregnancy go together pretty well.

If you have routinely participated in sports or exercise programs prior to pregnancy you might decide to try disc gold during your pregnancy.

If you do it for enjoyment and in a non-competitive way it can be fun just to get outdoors with others.

Keep in mind your physical limitations during pregnancy and make sure, if you decide to play disc golf, that your prenatal care provider is aware and feels you can participate based on your medical history.

Every sport has risks and benefits, especially during pregnancy.

Playing any sport while pregnant is about knowing your limitations based on your personal health and pregnancy.

Since disc golf, for most, is simply about having fun, the best way to engage in an activity such as this is to see it as a way to get out and get stress-free exercise.

Other than throwing a frisbee with as much or as little effort as you choose.

This being said, as with any sport there is some physical effort, and the level of activity can always be taken to extremes.

As long as you have no underlying medical conditions or pregnancy complications, if your care provider says you can play disc golf, then it is just about respecting your limitations.

For women who want to play disc golf, the place where problems can occur during pregnancy is simply overdoing it as we often say.

If the weather is too warm either don’t play or limit your activity and drink plenty of fluids.

It is important to note that there are many types of Disc Golf Courses.

Some are simply set up in a field and the amount of exercise can be easily adjusted to your physical tolerance.

Others. as we recently found out can be very long with many hills, requiring a lot more physical endurance that may best be avoided depending on your level of physical conditioning.

This course was 18 holes and would be best to limit your activity to 9 holes or less.
