You’ll need to follow a few simple tips when ordering and making smart choices is important.

  • When choosing your dinner pick items that are lower in fat and calories.

Red Robin’s menu is full of lower-calorie and lower-fat options that are perfect to enjoy during pregnancy.

Choose dishes that have grilled chicken as the main entree, like the Ensenada chicken platter, and pair it with a side of broccoli, and a small side of steak fries, (to satisfy your craving), and you’ll have made an excellent choice for you and your unborn baby.

If you are craving a burger it is OK to enjoy one occasionally during pregnancy.

When choosing a burger at Red Robin the grilled turkey burger is an excellent choice.

If choosing. a beef burger you can save on calories and fat by skipping the cheese.

Load your burger up with fresh vegetables.

Red Robin also offers unless and vegan options that are excellent choices during pregnancy

When I go to Red Robin I order a single tavern burger.

They are smaller than regular gourmet burgers.

I love cheese on my burger and if pregnant always choose either cheddar or American to be safe.

I ask them to pile on the lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado too!

They have a good selection of salads that are not only delicious but are packed with nutrition that both you and your baby need.

  • House Salad: Diced tomato, sliced cucumber, shredded Cheddar cheese, and croutons on mixed greens with a choice of dressing.
  • Avo Cobb-Q Salad: Grilled chicken, avocado, crumbled bacon, diced tomato, sliced cucumbers, and shredded cheese on a mix of iceberg and romaine lettuce
  • SouthWest Chicken Salad: Crispy chicken, diced tomatoes, black beans, corn, and shredded cheese on a mix of iceberg and romaine lettuce
  • Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled chicken, diced tomatoes, cucumbers, and shredded cheese on a mix of iceberg and romaine lettuce
  • Soup & Salad Combo: Red’s chili or soup of the day with a side house salad

When ordering a salad at Red Robin you should avoid blue cheese and caesar dressing.

They are not safe to consume during pregnancy.

Ask that salads be made with no blue cheese crumbles.

It is safe to eat ranch dressing at Red Robin.

They use a commercially prepared dressing that is pasteurized.

Portion sizes at Red Robin are huge and it is easy to go overboard.

So delicious! But it is loaded with fat and calories.

We couldn’t leave out the discussion of the Red Robin appetizers.

We can go to Red Robin and eat only appetizers and be completely satisfied.

But, all of their appetizers are high in calories and fat.

Your best option is going to be fried pickles.

You can indulge in the towering onion rings but only have a couple.

They can be greasy and greasy food can upset your stomach during pregnancy leading to nausea and vomiting.

 

What are some of the dishes that are safe to eat at Red Robin while pregnant?

  • Grilled Chicken Burger: The perfect option for a burger without cheese. Loaded with vegetables and grilled chicken, this is an excellent choice.
  • The Ensenada Chicken Platter: Grilled chicken breast with red and yellow peppers, rice pilaf, and black beans is a delicious and healthy choice.
  • House Salad: Diced tomato, sliced cucumber, shredded Cheddar cheese, and croutons on mixed greens
  • Soup & Salad Combo: Red’s chili or soup of the day with a side house salad is a great option.
  • Turkey Burger: Lower in fat and calories than their beef burgers, the turkey burger is a great choice.
  • Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled chicken, diced tomatoes, cucumbers, and shredded cheese on a mix of iceberg and romaine lettuce.
  • California chicken sandwich: is made with grilled chicken breast, avocado spread, lettuce, tomato, and pepper jack cheese. You can skip the cheese and bacon with this one, or opt for a vegan chicken patty.
  • Teriyaki chicken sandwich: is made with grilled chicken and teriyaki glaze.
  • Veggie Burger: Forgo the cheese, but pile on the fresh veggies!

 

What are some menu items that I should avoid while pregnant?

You should avoid the following menu items while pregnant:

Fried Foods – Fried onion rings, fried chicken wings, and fried mozzarella.

Having said that sharing a deep-fried appetizer with other people and having a small portion is fine.

As long as eating fried foods does not make you feel sick.

Some women find that during pregnancy eating fried foods causes them to have heartburn or makes their morning sickness symptoms much worse.

Alcoholic Beverages – Alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy.

There is no known safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed during pregnancy.

You can eat a burger and fries.

But you may want to plan to eat a smaller portion and take the rest home for the next day and you may want to eat lower-calorie meals before you go out to eat.

I would do that during pregnancy when I knew I’d be eating a high-calorie dinner that I really wanted.

Another option is to go to Red Robin during lunchtime.

They serve lunch-size portions of all their entrees and you save significant calories ordering the lunch-size portion.

I would eat a lower-calorie breakfast and lunch and would bring home the leftovers for the next day.

These are a few of the healthier options on the Red Robin menu that we like, they also have a wedge burger that is low in fat and calories and some Red Robin restaurants we have dined at have a grilled salmon that would be an excellent choice for diner during pregnancy.

They also offer a Red Robin veggie burger that is supposed to be very good.

 

How can I make sure that I am eating safely at Red Robin while pregnant?

  • You can stick to soup and salad
  • Choosing the grilled chicken dishes
  • Make sure your meal is completely cooked and send it back if you are not sure.

  • Undercooked meats– lunch meats. Deli meats.
  • Hot foods that are not “hot”, avoid hot foods that have been sitting out without a warming source. Same for foods that should be eaten cold. If no ice or refrigeration source is keeping the food cold, take a pass.
  • Caffeine– soda, chocolate, and energy drinks. (Limit your caffeine to less than 200 mg a day)
  • Herbal Teas (There are so many ingredients in herbal teas so it is best to avoid them simply. Green tea is OK.)
  • Alcohol: There is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy. Avoid sauces made with alcohol, desserts made with alcohol, and all alcoholic beverages.

Eating healthily during pregnancy is essential to the development of your baby.

Here are some tips to help make sure you are getting the nutrients you need:
